AAII Baltimore meeting
This month's American Association of Independent Investors/Baltimore Chapter meeting will be on "The Case for Roth Conversion". The speaker will be Matt Carbone, regional VP of Retirement Wealth Strategies.
Its complicated. At first everyone thought it was a no-brainer. Then they crunched the numbers and found it didn't make any difference in a lot of instances. Finally, financial planners started looking at all the little nuances where it can negatively affect people - increase Medicare premiums etc. So I think today we are at the point where we understand that it can be a fairly complex analysis. To provide additional entertainment there are those seeking, as always, to exploit the financially illiterate - do a Roth conversion and put it into an annuity etc.
There are a lot of different opinions on this topic, will be interesting to see what this guy recommends.
